Welcome to Our Breeder Profile

Our Names are Gail & Mike Davis

Coco And Casey

Location:  Orpington, Kent

Breed(s): Eqyption Mau and Abyssinians

Breeding since: 2007

Tell us a bit about you: We are Mike & Gail Davis and we live with our two daughters, Emma & Chloe in Kent, the Garden of England. Mike has vast experience of breeding and exhibiting a variety of animals over the past forty odd years including, rabbits, cavies, gerbils, rats and mice. We have also bred chinchillas

and chipmunks. The cats are first and foremost our much loved family pets, but we enjoy the breeding and exhibiting, and so do the cats!

CFA Champion Mauisha Nepherhotep of Newkingdom

Why did you choose your breed(s)? The Abyssinian and Egyptian Mau are two of the oldest natural breeds of cat in the world. They have not been man-made and this appealed greatly to us. They are both cats of striking elegance and poise with the most wonderful temperaments. There is never a dull moment when you have an Abyssinian or Mau around the house!

Why/how did you start breeding? The breeding just came as a natural part of keeping and showing our cats. We have bred several different animals over the years and have kept cats for the past twenty years. It was an obvious progression to us to let them have kittens.

Why did you choose your prefix?  Our prefix Melissaidan, is a combination of our two daughters middle names, Melissa and Aidan.

When were your most memorable occasions as a breeder?  Our first litter born under our prefix

will always be memorable. A beautiful trio of silver Egyptian Maus! We also have wonderful memories of the day our Abyssinian queen, Coco, won Overall Best in Show at the Berks, Oxon and Bucks show in 2007.

Who were/are the most memorable cats you've had? All our cats are memorable to us for different reasons, but if we had to pick a couple it would be, Coco and Topaz, as they were our foundation Abyssinian and Egyptian queens.

What are your hopes for the future of your breed/your breeding programme?  Our hopes are that both breeds continue to flourish as they are doing at the moment. We share the concerns of many other Abyssinian and Egyptian Mau breeders with regard to the ever decreasing bloodlines in the UK, but hopefully by all working together, we can start to take steps to improving this situation.

Coco wins Overall Best in Show, Bucks, Oxon & Berks Cat Society 2007
